Introduction

Icaro's new helmet Nevo has obtained certification for two very different activities, snow sports (EN 1077) and sport flying (EN 966). This innovative feature makes it a world first for this combination. It is a dual sport helmet that offers optimum safety, reduced weight, and distinctive style.

Italian Design

Nevo’s superb appearance was masterminded by Ignazio Bernardi, in collaboration with Felice Manzoni from Italy’s leading helmet design studio

Two types of outer shell, carbon fibre or ABS

An outer shell in carbon fibre is lighter and more expensive than an ABS shell.

The latter is simpler to make, but it naturally has sufficient strength to guarantee the desired degree of protection.

Nevo’s outer shell comprises a carefully-engineered series of carbon fibre layers, accurately cut and inserted into the mould. Each layer is treated with special composite resins and left to dry before working on the next layer. The resulting laminated structure is light and exceptionally resilient, capable of dispersing energy and optimizing impact protection.

Polystyrene inner shell

The expanded polystyrene (EPS) inner shell guarantees extreme lightness, assuring the greatest possible user comfort while also performing an important protective role.

The EPS foam, density 70 kg/m3 (70 g/l), is designed to optimize impact attenuation for the incidents that may occur in high-speed sports.

Sizes

The size of a helmet is specified by the comfort padding’s inner circumference.

The size number therefore corresponds to the head circumference in centimetres, which can be measured directly using a soft tape.

Nevo is available in the following sizes:

• size 61 - 62 = XL
• size 59 - 60 = L
• size 57 - 58 = M
• size 55 - 56 = S

Rotary size regulator

A special rotor designed and made entirely in Italy

The rotary size regulator can be used to modify not only the helmet’s internal circumference, but also its position with respect to the back of the neck.

It is simple to adjust and the operation can be performed directly by the wearer.

The padding on the size regulator’s inner surface ensures comfort.

Interchangeable internal padding

The innermost layer of padding is made using the innovative, high-quality, super-soft fabric Shalimar, which optimizes comfort by absorbing perspiration, wicking it away from the scalp and allowing it to evaporate. This ensures that the user stays cool and dry at all times.

The padding, fastened using Velcro, can be easily removed, washed and replaced.

If the helmet is not a perfect fit, we can send you new padding free of charge, independently from where you bought the product.

Cheek pads

Nevo's internal padding can be tailored to optimize fit.

In the same way, the cheek pads are interchangeable to ensure perfect comfort.

We supply each helmet with cheek pads that we consider as standard for the respective helmet size. However, we have cheek pads in four sizes.

If the cheek pads on your helmet are too tight, or loose, we will send you replacement cheek pads of a different size, free of charge.

Visor

5 colours are available

• Transparent
• Orange
• Fumé brown
• Mirror blue
• Mirror silver

Nevo’s visor is made in optical-class thermo-formed polycarbonate, with high impact resistance, anti-scratch for optimum optical clarity. It is easy to clean using a mild soap solution.

Material: 1,200 kg/m3 polycarbonate with anti-scratch treatment.

Thickness: 2 mm

Total light transmittance:

88% for the transparent visor

37% for the brown visor

A foam strip can be applied to the visor, a special feature that prevents air from entering the space between visor and face. It is very popular with skiers.

Visor fixing system

In order to further increase safety for paraglider pilots, we have introduced a new visor fastening system (patent pending).

It was essential to ensure that the aluminium pivot disc does not project from the outer shell by more than 5 mm, ensuring that the paraglider lines cannot get caught on the helmet.

This modification was also mandatory for EN 966 certification.

There is an O-ring inside the aluminium disc which provides the friction necessary to adjust visor position continuously and smoothly.

The degree of friction can be adjusted as required using the hex key supplied with the helmet.

When the visor is lifted completely, it is entirely outside the field of vision.

Airflow inside the helmet

Our analyses of high-velocity sports such as skiing, hang gliding, paragliding, luge riding and so forth, have shown that user comfort is optimized by the internal ventilation provided by the two forward-facing intake slots.

The intake slots can be black, red, yellow or blue, according to the customer’s preference.

The coloured slots add even more character to the helmet’s distinctive and original appearance.

Ear covers

The ear covers are very soft, comfortable and easily removable.

Above all, they have a unique look.

In their appearance they seem to be made of carbon, and they also have a black or coloured insert, according to the choice of intake slots.

For optimum protection, we recommend always using the helmet with the protective ear covers in position.

Micrometric chin strap

The chin strap is easy to adjust, with millimetric precision, using both the red quick release clip, and the double D-ring for strap length adjustment.

Just lift the red tab to undo the strap.

The chin strap is padded with soft, comfortable fabric.

The release clip on the chin strap is not available in other colours. For this component, red is mandatory for certification.

Goggle strap retainer

On request, we can fit a goggle strap retainer to the helmet.

It can be opened quickly and easily using the black button, so that the goggle strap can be inserted or released.

Colours

Nevo is currently made in versions in different shell materials, in gloss or matt-finish carbon fibre, and in ABS, in seven bright colours.

The outer shell is finished with edge trim in black or grey, according to the customer’s preference.

EN 966 Certification

The photo illustrates the rigorous testing performed as part of EN 966 certification.

Icaro’s helmets are tested by CSI, a laboratory authorized by Italy’s Ministry of Transport.

Nevo was designed specifically for hang glider, paraglider and microlight pilots. It is made to be as light as possible, with no compromises on safety.

Nevo is certified in compliance with the European EN 966 standard.

Sizes and weight

During the certification process, the Nevo helmets passed the parameters required to guarantee satisfactory peripheral vision and vertical field.

Carbon fibre shell: the helmet, without visor, weighs 530 - 560 grams

ABS shell: the helmet, without visor, weighs 570 -600 grams.

The visor weighs 88 grams, in all versions.

The visor fixing system weighs 10 grams.

Italian-made quality

All our helmets are created by Italian designers, made in Italy using Italian materials and technology, assembled at our workshop in Laveno by trained Italian personnel, and certified by an Italian company.

It would be cheaper to outsource production overseas.

We prefer to do everything ourselves, here in Italy, for a reason: quality, which means safety and user satisfaction.
